Located on To Hien Thanh street, Special Belgian (SBB) Beer Club is the most special space for enjoying Belgian beer. Unlike the exciting atmosphere of street beer pubs, SBB has conquered beer connoisseurs in Hanoi for its quality, traditional taste, attractive beer colour and special drinking as well as European-styled serving style.

Belgian culture
Belgium boasts a developed beer industry with 125 big producers. They produce more than 500 beer brands, including many famous ones such as InBev and Alken Maes. Belgium will have more than 1,000 beer brands, including “family beer firms”. However, the “firms” still keep manual beer production method of 100 years old (with barrels made from oak wood, natural fermentation, natural beer color with preservative substance). Each kind of beer is made up by a separate recipe which is handed down from for centuries. There are three kinds of beer: red, black and yellow beer. Belgian beer is seen as “the beer of the pure national soul: and drinking beer is seen as an art. Particularly, the local traditional beer production technology is not transferred to abroad.

Nowhere, people have a sophisticated style in the way of beer drinking like in Belgium. Each kind of beer is drunk by a kind of cup. When looking at the cup, you can know which beer is drunk. Unlike the “Beer drinking style of bottom-up” of Vietnamese people, in Belgium, people do not often get drunk, but just enjoy it. When sipping a mouthful of beer, you will feel the bitterness in lip-homage then a sense of coolness in throat. Then drinking beer more, flavour of buckwheat and fruits (strengths of Belgium) will hover around your mouth with soft foam. B elgian people do not usually pour beer up to the cup, and leave beer yeast behind.

Space to enjoy Belgian beer in the middle of Hanoi
Studying and working in Belgium for many years, passion for business and Belgian culture urges Nguyen Dinh Kien to take the European beer from Vietnam. In 2008, he came back the country and started building a space for enjoying Belgian beer or Special Belgian Beer Club.

The SBB club is situated on No. 16, To Hien Thanh street, includes three wide floors which can serve up to 60 customers at the same time. The first floor is arranged like a bar with swivel chairs and a comfortable space. The second floor is closed rooms for VIP and the third is general rooms. On Saturday evenings and Sunday, the SBB has live music with performance of pianists. The basement and stores are arranged as a display room of different kinds of Belgian beer.

Beer at the SBB is wholly imported directly with the famous brands such asGouden Draak, Kasteel, Scaldis, Piraat, Deus and Kawk. Nguyen Dinh Kien, SBB Manager, said his club is providing five kinds of family beer. Beer quality and serving style can ensure regulations in Belgium (having cups for a kind of beer and keeping standards for alcohol colour and flavour). When drinking beer, you should take some European food.

Currently, the club is offering beer products alcohol of 9 -12 per cent content. This is a kind of beer suitable for connoisseurs. In the short time, it will launch light beer for women, aiming to bring the best beer to Vietnamese people.

Kien always expects to popularise Belgian beer in Vietnam. With deep understanding of Belgian culture and beer production, the SBB is hoped to be a big Belgian beer distributor in Vietnam.
