Vietnam exported 549,000 tons of steel worth US$427 million in the first five months of this year, jumping 250.6% and 244.1% from a year earlier, respectively, Chairman of the Vietnam Steel Association, Pham Chi Cuong said.

The surge was attributed to the rising exports of cold-rolled steel of foreign-invested firms during the period.

The U.S., Germany, Japan and Cambodia were Vietnam’s top importers of the products.

The Southeast Asian nation imported 3.31 million tons of steel and ingot worth US$2.17 billion, representing respective on-year rises of 6.7% and 29%, the General Statistics Office said. (Youth, GSO)
