Mekong Delta Targets $6B from Farm Produce Exports in 2010

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region targets to export $6 billion worth of agricultural products in 2010, up 9% from a year earlier, the Nong Nghiep Viet Nam newspaper reported.
 
To meet the target, Mekong Delta provinces will cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City in developing food processing industry, while boosting trade promotions, local officials were cited as saying.
 
The region has raked in more than $2.3 billion from agricultural product exports so far this year, the officials added.
 
The Mekong Delta region is the Vietnam’s largest producing area of rice, seafood and fruits, with total areas of 1.7 million hectares, 650,000 hectares, and 420,000 hectares, respectively. (Vietnam Agriculture)
