Vietnam, Africa to Outline New Dialogue for Sustainable Development
The 2nd international forum on Vietnam-Africa cooperation will take place in Hanoi on Aug 17-19 to seek for sustainable relations, according to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Doan Xuan Hung.
Addressing a press briefing on the event August 3, Hung said the forum will revise up “the national action program for Vietnam-Africa cooperation in the period of 2004-2010” and outline a new dialogue mechanism for the next ten years.
Food security, agriculture and poverty reduction, trade, investment and training of human sources will be main fields for the future cooperation.
More than 41 delegations, including 22 from African countries and 15 from international organizations such as United Nations, JICA, have registered to attend the forum, he noted.
The deputy minister added Vietnam will sign agreements on visa exemption with Burkina Faso and Egypt and another on economic, cultural, scientific and technological ties with Seychelles on the sidelines of the event.
Vietnam has so far set up diplomatic relations with more than 51 out of 54 African countries.
Since the first conference in 2003, the trade between Vietnam and Africa increased six times to over US$2 billion last year and is expected to reach US$2.8 billion this year. (
