Logistics Development Tops ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting
Logistics development topped the ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting (AEC-4) which was opened in Vietnam’s central city of Danang on August 22. The meeting attracted 300 officials, lawmakers and entrepreneurs from countries in ASEAN.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu said at the meeting that ASEAN is trying to boost developing logistics services from now to 2013, aiming to become a logistics center in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the meeting, the officials discussed many measures to boost ASEAN’s logistics integration process in 2013, including improvement of railway and airway infrastructure systems and boost of goods treatment agreements.
The AEC-4 is a part of the 42nd ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (AEM-42) taking place in Danang.
By end-2009, Vietnam had between 800 and 900 logistics companies. Up to 700 logistics companies are based in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ten foreign logistics corporations including Maersk Line, MITSUI OSK, APL and Logitem currently dominate the Vietnamese market. (Youth)
