Int’l Tourist Arrivals to Vietnam +35.3% to 3.35M in Jan-Aug: GSO
Vietnam is estimated to have welcomed 3.35 million foreign tourist arrivals in the first eight months of 2010, up 35.3% from a year earlier, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).
China, South Korea, Japan and the U.S. remain the largest markets of the local tourism industry during the period with respective increases of 96.2%; 28.1%; 19.3% and 3%, the GSO added.
In August, the country is estimated to have received 430,000 foreign arrivals, up 4.9% on month and 38.4% on year.
Of the total visitors, 2.115 million have come for tourism; 669,600 for business; 403,300 for visiting relatives and 162,000 for other purposes.
The increase is possibly attributed to better global economy, rising tourism demand and effective domestic promotion activities.
Last year, Vietnam welcomed 3.8 million foreign travelers and earned revenues of VND70 trillion (US$3.8 billion), down 11.5% and up 9%, respectively over a year earlier.
The Southeast Asia country aims to receive between 4.5 million and 4.6 million foreign travelers and earn tourism revenues of between US$4 billion and US$4.5 billion this year. (GSO)
