Established in 1992 in Vietnam, Deutsche Bank has been operating a full-service branch in Ho Chi Minh City since 1995 and a Representative Office in Hanoi since 2007 (initially opened in 1992, and temporarily closed in 2002). The Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank is consisting of Mr Tri Pham (Chief Country Officer), Mr Tri Tran (COO), Ms Le Nhat Phuong Hong (Trade Finance and Cash Management), Ms Trieu Thi Minh Ngoc (Corporate Banking Coverage), Mr Raymond Yeoh (Global Markets), Mr Pham Van Son (Global Market Finance) and Dr Andreas Stoffers (Private and Business Clients).
 
Deutsche Bank offers a comprehensive range of services in Vietnam. In the traditional corporate banking business area this includes accounts and deposits, cash management, trade finance and domestic custody services, an area where the bank excels, as highlighted by The Asset in its 2009 Transaction Banking Awards where Deutsche Bank won Best Transaction Bank Vietnam for the second consecutive year, and Best Cash Management Bank Vietnam. In custody services Deutsche Bank was awarded by The Asset the Best Domestic Custodian Vietnam title in 2010.
 
In investment banking, Deutsche Bank offers sales and trading in asset classes such as foreign exchange, fixed income and money markets, as well as debt organization. In October 2007, Deutsche Bank completed the purchase of a 10 percent strategic stake in Hanoi Building Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Habubank), enhancing its ability to participate directly in the development of the rapidly expanding retail financial services sector in the country. In order to liaise with Habubank and to explore the Vietnamese market, Deutsche Bank Private and Business Clients launched a business development team in Vietnam.
 
Deutsche Bank was awarded Best Foreign Investment Bank in Vietnam by Finance Asia in 2007. It received this for its position as the dominant arranger and underwriter of corporate bonds in Vietnam, as well as the role it has played in providing foreign investors access to local markets. On the bond side, Deutsche Bank has completed a number landmark deals such as Electricity of Vietnam’s VND1 trillion offering in November 2006 (Asiamoney’s “Local Currency Bond of the Year”).
 
On the equity side, Deutsche Bank has closed one of the largest private placements in Vietnam to date, and is among the largest market access providers to global institutional and retail investors.
 
Key capital market transaction highlights include: 1)August 2010: Participation in Habubank’s Convertible Bond Issuance of VND1 trillion in order to maintain Deutsche Bank’s strategic stake of 10 percent; 2) January 2010: US$1 billion Vietnam Sovereign bonds issue; 3) July 2007: Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam VND 3 trillion bond issue; 4) May 2007: Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation VND1 trillion bond issue; 5) January 2007: Vinamilk’s US$70 million private placement; 6) November 2006: Electricity of Vietnam’s VND 1 trillion bond offering.
 
Deutsche Bank believes that it is important to contribute to the communities in which it operates. Thus, Deutsche Bank Asia Foundation has participated in a number of charitable initiatives in Vietnam, with a core focus of helping children in need. Deutsche Bank Asia Foundation has helped to provide libraries for rural schools, donated funds for poor children in need of life saving heart operations at Nhi Dong Paediatric Hospital HCMC, funding for child cancer patients at Cancer Hospital HCMC and several other projects at orphanages and schools. The most outstanding example for financial support of the bank and personal commitment of its staff as corporate volunteers is the building of Huong Duong School since 2009, which educates orphaned and handicapped children in order to send them to college later.
