In 2006, Dong Nai Trade Promotion Centre was established. The Centre has strengthened its role in helping local enterprises seek partners and consumption markets. The Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Mr Dinh Hung Cuong, Director of Dong Nai Trade Promotion Centre. Van Luong reports.
Could you give us a brief summary of the trade promotion and R&D market in Dong Nai province?
From our very first steps participating in events like market fairs or exhibitions, after five years of tireless efforts, Dong Nai Trade Promotion Centre has gained much experience. Our trade promotion activities are, therefore, getting more and more professional. The centre has provided leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade with consulting on planning and implementing annual trade stimulus programmes to enhance the efficiency of associations and enterprises operating within the area. It has also provided advice and support to enterprises to develop their business. It has successfully co-organized 17 trade fairs and exhibitions in the province and supported Dong Nai enterprises attending similar events outside the province. Thanks to support from the centre, 94 delegations of enterprises have participated in trade fairs and exhibitions outside the province.
In addition, to utilize the best organizational models related to product consumption of farms and farming households in Dong Nai, the centre has organized nine surveys in different provinces across the nation, relating to the coffee trading floor in Dak Lak, the farm product market in Tien Giang and Dong Thap, grapefruit exports in Vinh Long and Ben Tre, and consumption in major markets of An Giang and Ho Chi Minh City. Five business delegations to overseas markets have also been held, including: Developing wood products into the American market; Halal food in Malaysia; Commerce in the Cambodian market; Market development delegation in Southern Laos and market development delegation in Northern Laos, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s programme.
Since its establishment, how has the Centre proved its role as a trade advisor and promoter?
In addition to its regular tasks, during its operation, the Centre has proposed that Dong Nai Department of Industry and Trade establish a Vietnamese Goods Club in Dong Nai province, and co-operated with local governments and Management Boards of industrial parks to organize 28 sales programmes dubbed “Bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside” and 11 “Markets to serve workers” which all meet requirements of scale, price and product range. It has also invited foreign entrepreneur delegations to come and work in Dong Nai via Vietnamese Trade Counsellors located overseas to facilitate business activities with Vietnamese enterprises. Furthermore, the centre has collaborated with: Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, Ceramic Art Association and Textile and Apparel Association to organize a workshop on “Penetration opportunities into the EU market”; with Ho Chi Minh City Ceramic – Wood Association to hold a workshop on “Investigating Lacey Act of the USA”; with Vietnam – Japan Association to organize a workshop on “Dissemination of Vietnam – Japan Trade Agreement”; and co-operated with the New Zealand-based Vietnamese Trade Counsellor.
Please tell us about the Centre’s development orientation for the coming time in order to further improve quality and efficiency of trade promotion activities, as well as to support enterprises.
In the time to come, to enhance our operational efficiency, we will further implement co-operative activities, exchange information with regional trade promotion organizations and trade counsellors in some nations, Vietnamese Entrepreneur Associations located overseas, departments, industries, associations and enterprises operating in the province to expand and develop the distribution system. We will also co-ordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, VCCI and Vietnamese trade-related agencies overseas to implement trade promotion activities. Moreover, we will co-operate with trade promotion organizations of some other provinces and cities to organize meetings between Dong Nai enterprises and foreign importers on business trips to Vietnam.
In addition, the centre will actively contact foreign importers, find out how to penetrate distribution channels and study customers’ taste. Through these activities, it will support enterprises to diversify products, aiming to develop markets for processed goods and unique products of Dong Nai.
In terms of market development, besides supporting enterprises to stabilize and consolidate major markets, the centre also provides them with guidelines for approaching new, potential markets like Japan, South Korea, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. It will nurture a close relationship with the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to use the funds in National Trade Promotion Programmes and other supporting programmes to support enterprises in establishing their brand names, and to organize workshops on competition, trademarks and intellectual property issues. At the same time, we will call for SMEs operating within the province to participate in the Dong Nai e-trading floor, thereby help them expand their consumption markets, locally and globally.
