An amount of VND 3,124 billion is invested in the coastal road project of Xuan Hoi – Thach Khe– Vung Ang. It will become a strategic road of Ha Tinh province, conducting three tasks simultaneously: creating a regional link for economic development, ensuring national security, and guaranteeing smooth traffic during the flood season.
These days, Ha Tinh’s traffic sector, local people, as well as leaders of districts such as Nghi Xuan and Loc Ha are delighted that the provincial People’s Committee has approved the coastal road project along Xuan Hoi - Thach Khe - Vung Ang. Mr Tran Tu Anh, Chairman of People’s Committee of Loc Ha district shared: “Once the coastal road is open, we will have better conditions to exploit our advantages in producing and processing seafood products, as well as developing marine tourism.”
A major transport project
In Ha Tinh, the coastal road along Xuan Hoi - Thach Khe - Vung Ang starts from Cua Hoi bridge (Xuan Hoi commune, Nghi Loc district), and ends at the junction leading to the ring road of Ho Do, Loc Ha district. The road has a total length of 44 km and is designed consistently with standards of grade III delta road, allowing the speed of 80 km an hour with two lanes (especially, the section running through residential areas of Xuan Thanh, Thach Chau is designed with 4 lanes). Total investment is estimated to be VND3,124 billion, and Provincial Department of Transport is project owner.

Besides Cua Hoi Bridge, in the future, six more new bridges will be constructed in the project of coastal road along Xuan Hoi – Thach Khe – Vung Ang, with a total length of over 2,000 metres. As for Cua Hoi Bridge, it is the largest bridge across the Lam River, with the length of 1,738 metres. The bridge is situated about 3 km from the embouchure, its northern end is near Hoi Trai bridge of Nghi Hai ward, Cua Lo town. Therefore, when the project is completed, Cua Hoi Bridge may take its advantages, creating favourable conditions for social-economic development of various communes such as Xuan Pho, Xuan Dan, Xuan Truong, Xuan Hoi.

To ensure necessary conditions for the commencement ceremony, recently, provincial leaders, management board of basic construction projects, as well as relevant departments have been making all efforts to complete design of technique, implementation and total cost estimation. At the same time, they have also organised construction bidding, planning resettlement areas, identifying routes influenced by the construction, setting up landmarks to conduct the project on time. Mr Tran Quang Tuan, Director of Management Board of Transport Development Project, Department of Transport said “This is one of the largest transport projects of Ha Tinh; we will make all of our efforts to complete this road quickly in order to meet the requirements of economic development.”
To maximise the efficiency of the coastal road, People’s Committee of Ha Tinh has chosen and considered carefully numerous options of implementation. Provincial leaders then chose the second option with many good points; it ensures straight lines, does not affect two cultural – historical works (Bach Thach Temple and Bach Moc Pagoda), as well as shortens total length by over 0.5 km.

Conducting three tasks
With the construction of the coastal road along Xuan Hoi – Thach Khe – Vung Ang, Ha Tinh province has made a crucial step in completing coastal roads connecting economic areas such as Nghi Son (Thanh Hoa) – economic zone Dong Nam, Nghe An –economic zone Vung Ang (Ha Tinh) and economic zone Hon La (Quang Binh). Moreover, this coastal road will open many more connections, as well as support more efficient exploitation of tourism of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, specifically Cua Lo tourism town of Nghe An, as well as Xuan Thanh beach and memorial area of Nguyen Du of Ha Tinh.

When officially going into operation, the road will reduce the load on national highway 1A which is frequently flooded. Local people and tourists will not have to worry when passing the region in the rainy season.
Along with the coastal dike system, the coastal road along Xuan Hoi – Thach Khe – Vung Ang is also a defensive road, protecting against natural disasters and enforcing national defence and regional security.
