Deepening Commercial Promotion and Investment Activities

Taking advantage of proper policies and smooth coordination between departments, industries and enterprises, for the last years, commercial promotion and investment activities of An Giang province have gradually improved and brought many achievements, step by step upgraded its prestige and position, as well as contributed to positive GDP growth of the three regions.
 
The most outstanding achievements are a gradual increase in investment attraction, larger project scales, concentration on fields such as: safe and high quality agricultural products and seafood; processing industry; modern and civilised transport and commercial infrastructure. An Giang Trade Promotion and Investment Centre has successfully expanded market share and developed not only domestic markets, but also regional and international ones. The growth rates of commercial and service fields remain high, and growth of domestic trade is up to over 15 percent per year; border trade is always effervescent with average growth of 25 percent per year.
 
Moreover, the Centre successfully organised a series of annual fairs domestically and at the border, creating opportunities for goods of enterprises of the province, Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong River Delta to intrude deeply into Cambodia’s market. It also conducted successful foreign trade promotion and coordination, put priorities in the province, Mekong’s sub-region countries, countries and regions that have had traditional relationships in commerce and investment coordination.
 
As for activities of supporting and helping enterprises and investors, the Centre continues developing three main product groups with enterprises, which are: rice, seafood and vegetables, making them products of national trademarks; building several products and goods that have potential to become provincial trademarks. More than that, the Centre always accompanies enterprises and creates every opportunity for them to have trade relationships such as: organising and participating in general and specialised fairs and exhibitions domestically and internationally; focusing on supporting enterprises to produce and trade according to the global value chain, putting goods into domestic and international retail systems. Especially, the Centre advised and proposed the province to soon establish investment development funds and create available land funds, aiming to support projects that put priorities to development categories. This is most effective and economical solution in attracting investment capital.
 
Bringing into play earlier achievements, in the period of 2013 – 2015, activities of trade and investment promotion of An Giang province will work closely with Programme of trade and investment promotion for the period of 2011 – 2015, agreed by party provincial committee and provincial people’s party; putting priorities on service and border economy; pushing up agricultural industrialization – modernisation; economic mechanism restructuring; improving quality and competitiveness of goods; helping the economy of An Giang develop rapidly, thoroughly and sustainably in another 3 years.
 
Director of the Centre, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Em, said that apart from traditional export market and domestic market, the Centre focuses on promoting potential commercial markets and markets of re-exporting main products. The markets in Northern Asia are Japan – Korea and Hong Kong; those in Middle East are UAE and Saudi Arabia, that are not only consumption market but also a springboard to the North African markets; expanding EU market; trading goods between Mekong’s sub-regional countries and ASEAN. At the same time, promoting every economic subjects to invest in major provincial projects, projects of areas and regions: bridges and roads for national and provincial highways leading to border gates between An Giang and Cambodia, border economic areas and intensive agricultural areas of high technology.
