Tu Son Town: Continuous Development

Endowed with a favourable geographical location and convenient transportation, after five years of establishment, the ​​61.33-square kilometre town of Tu Son has maintained average annual economic growth of 16.2 percent. Specifically, industry and handicraft has expanded 16.5 percent, service 16.9 percent, and agriculture 2.1 percent. Tu Son is also home to many famous cottage industry villages like Da Hoi - Chau Khe steel village, Phu Khe, Huong Mac and Dong Ky wooden furniture villages, and Tuong Giang textile village.
Effort to get through hardships
In 2013, overall low economic growth continues to weigh on operations of local businesses and livelihoods of the people. But, with the close leadership of the local government and the endeavour of all sectors, businesses and people, the town’s economy has remained stable and achieved remarkable results.
 
In the first six months of 2013, industrial production value was estimated to reach VND4,830.5 billion, equal to 78.4 percent of the full-year plan and up 20 percent over the same period. Retail revenue totalled VND3,415 billion, or 43.5 percent of the yearly plan and up 19 percent year on year. State budget revenue was projected at VND344.4 billion, or 49.8 percent of the annual plan and up 190.8 percent year on year.
 
The town pays high attention to urban construction planning and socio-economic infrastructure development. In 2013, the town has continued nine construction projects from previous years and focused resources on key projects, including Ngo Gia Tu Monument, Road 180 from Phu Chan to Dai Dong, Tu Son Secondary School, other important ones. Tu Son always attaches importance to construction management and applies policies to quicken land acquisition and site clearance.
 
In addition to economic development aspects, the social and cultural areas also make much progress. The most notable events are the 50-year “good deed” campaign and grassroots sporting games. Social welfare is ensured. The town has presented four charity houses for the poor and delivered aids to the needy. In addition, administrative procedure reform continues to be given priority. Social security and order is maintained.
 
Development orientation
In the coming time, Tu Son town will strive to maintain high and stable economic growth, accelerate urbanisation and protect environment. It will continue to promote industrial and handicraft development, create a powerful shift in quality and competitiveness of products and services on the market, develop urban agriculture, develop and exploit trade and tourism, build a solid infrastructure, improve cultural quality, carry out social security, maintain political security, social order and safety.
 
Ms Nguyen Thi Le Tuyet, Vice Chairwoman of Tu Son Town People’s Committee, said: “2013 is the banner year of the Tu Son Town’s 16th Party Congress in the 2010 - 2015 term. Therefore, socioeconomic development results will contribute significantly to the realisation of the Congress’s Resolution.”
 
With the ultimate determination and effort of the entire political system, Tu Son town strives to raise the proportion of industry and construction in the local GDP to 69.7 percent, services to 28.1 percent, and agriculture to 2.2 percent by 2015. By then, industrial and handicraft production value will reach VND10,530 billion; agricultural production value, VND141.3 billion; and retail and service revenue, VND7,022 billion. The State budget revenue will reach VND550 billion. The ratio of trained workers will account for 60 percent, poverty rate will be reduced to below 1 percent, and per capita income will be US$6,000.
