Before visiting him, I learned a lot of information about him through social networks, media channels, and even official information from the Thai Binh Provincial People's Committee and local departments, but I was still very much surprised to see the prudence of Mr. Dao Trong Tai, President of Sao Mai Joint Stock Company. Forethought is something natural for a famous person like him, particularly when he works with the media. And perhaps his caution is partly behind the success of Sao Mai.
A company with Party cells is better
The first thing the man about the age of 70 mentions is the special power of the brand, Sao Mai - Good medicine for every family, after 13 years on the market. That is “building and promoting the power of Party organisation in the company.” As a veteran and a Party member, admitted more than 40 years ago, Dao Trong Tai is always resolute and loyal to the Party lines. In spite of being a private company, Sao Mai always follows Party lines and thoughts, and observes the laws. The company set up the Party cell when it was founded in 2007. At that time, the Party cell had only five members and the memberships have not reached 23.

Learning and following the exemplary morals of President Ho Chi Minh is always a cross-cutting task of Sao Mai. The company has creatively deployed and applied the Central Party Resolution 4 of the Communist Party of Vietnam (11th term) on “some critical issues in Party construction” to its realities. The Party Committee of the company proactively built action plans and specified every subject for members to follow.

Building sustainable development objectives
Personnel are considered the special property of the company. An employee must satisfy three qualifications, namely expertise, foreign language and computer use. Sao Mai is always proud of having 120 capable employees, including two masters and 12 university graduates, let alone nearly 300 agent employees.

Sao Mai is a trusted partner of many big brands in Vietnam as Traphaco and Hau Giang Pharmaceutical (DHG) as well as international pharmaceutical companies like GSK (UK). To boost prestige and product quality, the company has applied ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems, certified by TQCS International (TQCSI) - an international certification agency - in 2009. Currently, four drug stores run by Sao Mai are certified Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards. Besides, the company has specialised vehicles for carrying drugs.

Storage facilities play a decisive role in maintaining medicine quality. Hence, Sao Mai is the first pharmaceutical company in Thai Binh province to invest tens of billions of Vietnamese dong to build storage facilities meeting good storage practices (GSP) and apply first-in, first-out (FIFO) processes in storage operations. In addition, to ensure its development, the company established cooperation with San Xin Health Group (Jiangxi, China) to manufacture Saomed needles and transfusion cords of European standards.

With its relentless efforts, the company’s business scale expands year after year. Its revenue steadily grows 20-30 per cent a year, and is expected to reach VND240 billion in 2014. In recognition of its contributions, the Prime Minister handed the National Quality Silver Prize to Sao Mai Joint Stock Company in 2011 and 2012. The company was also listed the Top 500 Fast-growing Companies of Vietnam in 2011 and 2012, and won Trusted Brand 2013. In August 2014, the Party Committee of Sao Mai Joint Stock Company was honourably awarded the Certificate of Merit for being a “clean, strong Party cell for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013.” Dao Trong Tai was also bestowed a lot of personal honours like the War Resistance Medal in 1999, 40-year Party Badge in 2012; and the Certificate of Merit from the Provincial Standing Party Committee of Thai Binh. Sao Mai Joint Stock Company is now a shining star in the sky of Vietnam, in the health industry and in the business community of Vietnam.
