Sao Mai Group: Firm Growth

Nine years ago, in August 2006, Sao Mai Company invited nearly 1,000 homebuyers to a customer meeting. The 800-seat Meeting Hall of An Giang Party Committee was full to capacity. I was very impressed with the slogan “Sao Mai - Homebuilder for every family.” Nine years later, Sao Mai Group invited over 1,000 delegates from more than 10 member companies across the country to its 2015 New Year Meeting. This scene showed the prosperity and growth of Sao Mai Group.

Founded in 1997 when the Asian financial crisis occurred, Sao Mai confronted enormous hardships to survive under the leadership of CEO Le Thanh Thuan.
The most valuable property of a company is personnel. Board Chairman and CEO Le Thanh Thuan is an experienced, devoted construction engineer. With nearly 10 years of administrative experience working in State-run enterprises, he has led Sao Mai Group to become a leading construction firm today.

In 2008, economy downturn and financial crisis wrecked Vietnamese and world economies. This was the second crisis the company faced in 10 years. CEO Le Thanh Thuan one again showed his vision with the formation of Vam Cong Industrial Complex in Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province. The company commenced its investment with Vam Cong Industrial Complex in 2006 when industrial zones were mushrooming across the region. While developers were trying their best to lure tenants, Mr Thuan strangely showed his disinterest in finding tenants for the complex and surprised the local government with his acts. When factories of Sao Mai Group were erected in the industrial complex, his long-term vision was gradually shown to the public. The complex was solely used for Sao Mai Group’s export pangasius processing factories.

To raise pangasius product value chain, Sao Mai Group invested VND500 billion to build pangasius fat processing plants with most advanced and modern equipment and technologies from Europe. Ranee-branded premium fish oil is produced under FSSC international food safety standards. The fishy smell is removed, and natural nutrients like Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 8 and Vitamins A and E are maintained in Ranee fish oil. The premium fish oil has been distributed by supermarkets all over the country and successfully conquered even the most demanding customers.

With an owner’s equity of VND2,840 billion, Sao Mai Group now has more than 10 member companies with over 6,000 employees, including 500 management staff holding university degrees or higher, 10 percent of whom are senior. The high quality of the workforce has enabled Sao Mai Group to realise its business missions. Impressively, management staff of the group can speak one or two foreign languages.

Seeing the steady progress of Sao Mai Group, we are confident that the group will continue to gain new successes and shed light on the nation’s economy.
