Bright, clear, healthy and flexible eyes are very important to every person. A person must have healthy eyes to have beautiful eyes and personal nuances. Thus, eyes must have a good nutrition formula to be healthy and beautiful. Ms Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, Head of Nutrition Department, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, gives valuable consultations in an interview with Vietnam Business Forum. Hoang Ngoc reports.
How do foods affect our eyes?
With a balanced and rational diet, especially with good nutritional supplements for our eyes, we will have healthy, disease-free eyes. Scientists demonstrated that a protein-rich diet is good for our physical health. Hence, our eyesight will be weakened if we lack protein. Vitamins like A, B, C and E and minerals like zinc and copper also play very important roles in eye health. Especially, Omega 3 fat is vital to eye health as it prevents our eyes from deterioration and dryness.
What affects the health of the eyes?
A good diet is very critical to have healthy eyes. Other factors also affect eye health like heredity, ageing, overall health and lifestyle.
Currently, parents are very concerned about their children’s eye health because their eyes are vulnerable to defects. Many first-grade pupils are heavily short-sighted. Does this also result from an unreasonable diet?

There are many causes to eye defects, including important diet roles. Children may have their eyesight damaged if they lack protein, vitamin, mineral. Hence, parents need to have a diet good for eyes. They also change their bad habits.
How important are nutritional supplements in general and fish oil and Omega 3 in particular to pregnant women?
Pregnant women and nursing mothers need Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. They can supplement this by eating fish at least three times a week.
