The deepwater port system of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has effectively invested and operated in recent years, bringing the province closer to the goal of becoming an international and regional deepwater transshipment port centre. Interflour Cai Mep Port invested and operated by Interflour Vietnam Limited (Interflour) is a leading light.
Initially, Interflour Cai Mep Port specialised in handling agricultural products. In 2007, Interflour invested US$50 million to expand Interflour Cai Mep Port and make it the largest agricultural port in Vietnam. With a pier of 308 metres long, the port is able to receive ships of 75,000 tonnes in addition to a wharf for river- and seagoing ships of 7,000 tonnes. The port expansion has increased the warehousing capacity from 30,000 tonnes in 2004 to 200,000 tonnes at present. Interflour Cai Mep Port is now the most modern bulk agricultural terminal in Southeast Asia.

About 80 km from Ho Chi Minh City to the southeast, Interflour Cai Mep Port benefits from the Cai Mep fairway with a depth of 14 metres, capable of receiving Panamax-class ships of 75,000 DWT. Specially, it takes only two hours for travelling from the pilotage site to the port. The port can accommodate ships of 7,000 tonnes. Cargo will be transported from the port to neighbouring localities. In addition to modern facilities, pilotage and fairway fees are quite low.

Ms Bui Thi Lan, Director of External Relations of Interflour, said: “Right from the start, Interflour planned to build Interflour Cai Mep into a world-class agricultural port powered by professional management technology and equipment system. With this objective, Interflour always takes the human factor as a development goal. The company creates favourable conditions for its employees to raise technical expertise and meet working requirements. Skilled and experienced workers and modern machines and equipment ensure the best cargo handling and bring satisfaction to customers.

Together with human resources investment, Interflour Cai Mep Port also very much has concentrated on applying new management software to port management and operation, investing in a series of modern specialised equipment and management technology for stevedoring. With this intensive investment, its service quality and handling capacity are improved and professionalised, thus helping reduce the serving time and costs for customers. Last but not least, to store and preserve freights, Interflour Cai Mep Port has a warehousing system with 16 sections with a total storing capacity of 160,000 tonnes. This facility helps products stored and preserved in the best manner.

Powered by modern machinery and high-quality human resources, the cargo throughput at Interflour Cai Mep Port is a significant rise year over year. Ms Lan stressed, "To meet international economic integration requirements, Interflour Cai Mep Port will increase its investment for better service, greater capacity and safety for customers.”
