As a member unit of Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), South Basic Chemicals Joint Stock Company has consistently defined environmental protection as the most important factor to ensure production stability and business sustainability. On the occasion of the Fourth National Environment Conference, Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Mr Nguyen Huu Tho, General Director of South Basic Chemicals Joint Stock Company, on environmental protection. Could you please brief on your company’s strategy and actions to make environmental protection green and bring benefits to the company and the community?
Knowing that pollution prevention can only be achieved when production uses green technologies and people are responsible to the environment. In the past years, we have set out strategic tasks concerning environment protection, coupled with company investment and development strategy, with the following main contents:
Only choose advanced chemical production technologies with proven high production efficiency, low waste generation and environmental friendliness; regularly provide necessary environmental awareness training for employees; strengthen self-consciousness of environmental protection for employees, timely update legal requirements applicable in the company.
Carry out environmental protection strategy. The company uses system management tools according to the ISO14001 model to control all environmental protection activities in the course of production. We have applied the ISO14001 system to all production facilities.
In particular, the application of ISO 14001-standard environmental management enables the company to mobilise all employees to participate in environment protection. Every individual, every position knows their work and their responsibility to the environment when they fulfil their tasks and helps the company update legislation promptly.
How is South Basic Chemicals Joint Stock Company committed to environmental protection, green sustainable development and social responsibility in the coming time?
In the future, to further control environmental protection, we will place environmental issues to the forefront, ensure resources for environment works when we carry out business plans. When we make any investment, we will always look for opportunities to improve technologies and inputs to help reduce emissions and ensure better environmental protection.
Besides, we think that the environmental work is really guaranteed only when all employees in the company participate at their own will. Employees are the main actors in protecting the environment. When employees see their responsibility to the environment and the community, environmental protection will be highly effective.
With the support of the Vietnam Chemical Society and the Vietnam Responsible Care Council (VRCC), we have been building a system of voluntary corporate social responsibility called Responsible Care (RC) within our company. The application of RC system helps us raise the self-consciousness of employees, thereby upgrading environmental work.
