According to economic experts, 2016 is a milestone marking a new development stage of Vietnam's economy. The country has advanced with deeper integration in the world as it concluded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). New opportunities are awaiting the country when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is officially established. However, Vietnam is also facing new challenges in the way. Vietnam’s young economy has to accept to play an on a level ground with the world.
In an interview granted to Vietnam Business Forum at the advent of the Lunar New Year - the Year of Monkey, Dr Nguyen Quoc Binh, Member of the National Assembly, Member of the VCCI Executive Committee, and CEO of Hanel Company Limited, said, 2016 is the starting year of a new development stage of the Vietnamese business community in general and of Hanel in particular. With breakthroughs in business strategies in the 2011 -2015 phase and outstanding achievements in 2015, Hanel is firmly confident in the year 2016 with new targets, plans and directions. 2016 is the starting year of the 5-year development plan (2016-2020). According to observers, Vietnam has officially left behind the recession phase and started a new course of economic development. What do you think about perspectives in 2016?
In 1986, Vietnam initiated the first reform. After a certain period of development, the old clothes are now tight for the size of the economy. It is time we make rapid and strong changes for deeper integration into the “common roof” of the region and the world. In 2016, we will see huge opportunities, coupled with myriad difficulties. Notably, difficulties already exist while opportunities are only prospective. For example, TPP joining will open up good opportunities for exports, but are our products suitable for the world? However, with its rapid adaptability and lessons learned from institutional and administrative reform, economic restructuring has created new drives, new forces and new models for the future. Despite enormous difficulties, our conditions and opportunities will help us overcome those difficulties and turn bad into good. With strong determination, we will surely take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges to develop in 2016.
From the perspective of a business, 2016 is the first year of the new development phase of Hanel and other Vietnamese companies after passing a difficult journey in 2011-2015. In this challenging period, we have created breakthrough steps to turn business strategies from electronics industry to industry-based business platform, which is now primarily information technology. Hanel has defined its goal to become a leading technology brand of Vietnam in the 21st century, capable of competing successfully in regional markets and reaching out global markets. Therefore, in addition to IT and automation, Hanel also focuses on investing in biotechnology, nanotechnology and cybernetics systems. These steps come on a solid foundation that Hanel built in the 2011-2015 period in general and in 2015 in particular, providing the groundwork for Hanel to confidently walk into 2016 - the opening of a new development stage and the first year that marks Hanel as a joint stock company.

How will Hanel continue to secure breakthrough development as in 2015 to affirm its name in technology field in 2016 - the first year it operates as a joint stock company?
2015 was a successful year for Hanel with all production and business targets in excess of plans. A series of IT application projects in transportation, customs and health sectors were implemented and completed on schedule. A typical example was the smart transport management solution based digital map. This was the first digital map project in Vietnam developed by Vietnamese people. Hanel took the digital map as the foundation for connecting database and to managing entire traffic data and itinerary information monitoring. This was a big database system that served smart traffic coordination and regulation. On January 14, 2016, the Ministry of Transport officially launched the project.
The pilot project "Order and safety traffic violation monitoring and handling system on Phap Van - Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Highway in the socialisation model” is a path-breaking project of Hanel. Camcorders along the course will record evidence of violations for later punishment.
In the health field, Hanel has carried out the electronic medical record connection platform project for the Ministry of Health. Hanel built solutions to standardise electronic medical records for the nation-wide health system, ensure integration, exchange data and unify reports of agencies and organisations. The internal reporting system project of the Ministry of Health, developed by Hanel, provides a central reporting system for medical incidences such as disease information, project progress, and conference information. This system is integrated with preventive medicine, HIV and population planning database. It integrates features of work assignment, work tracking/assignment and information monitoring and management of all departments under the Ministry of Health. It also supports the ministry's leaders to grasp information and issue instructions and decisions. In addition to the above IT application projects, Hanel also deployed other investment and production projects in 2015, including Hanoi Software Park and Co Bi ICD.
Robust investment and radical access to advanced technologies of the world is the way for Hanel to go faster on the path of integration into the global economy and gradually reach the world level. To successfully realise its goals set for 2016, the first year it is operated as a joint stock company, Hanel will continue to focus on resources for key technology projects on the one hand and will restructure the organisational structure, improve personnel quality and corporate governance on the other. All these elements will help Hanel to continue to develop in a sustainable way.
On the threshold of the New Lunar Year, as a Member of VCCI Executive Committee, what do you wish to share with the business community in Vietnam in 2016?
On the occasion of the Year of Monkey in 2016, I would like to send best wishes to all VCCI member companies. I wish that VCCI will always stand firm as a top-class agency of enterprises in Vietnam and gather more big enterprises under the common roof of VCCI. I wish that all VCCI member companies effectively grasp opportunities from FTAs to strongly overcome challenges in the global playing field. I expect that 2016 - the first year of the 5-year plan (2016-2020) - will be a successful year for the Vietnamese business community.
