In October 2016,Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage (Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam or SPVB) organised 9 field trips for 700 pupils in the North and the South visiting its plants in Bac Ninh and Dong Nai to offer them hands-on experiences on water saving and wastewater treatment system at the plants. This useful outdoor activity is part of the “Mizuiku – I love clean water” – a water education program funded by Suntory Holdings Limited (SHD) Japan and deployed in the North of Vietnam since 2015 by Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage (SPVB) in coordination with Centre of Live and Learn for Environment and Community (Live & Learn) and Tuong Lai Centre for Health Education and Community Development (Tuong Lai Centre). In 2016, the project is extended to the South with the participation of 10 elementary schools in Bac Ninh, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Applying hands – on education methods of Mizuiku project, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has brought a wide range of interesting activities into the factory tours such as puzzles, experiments on the role of water to the earth, using litmus papers to check the pH of water and the changes in water quality after filtration. Especially, they observed and experienced on their own the closed production line manufacturing soft drinks that are familiar in daily life like Pepsi, 7UP, Revive, Sting, O Long Tea + Plus,... to learn more about water saving and wastewater treatment technologies of Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam. At the end of the tour, children enjoyed beverages produced by SPVB right in the factory campus.

Mr Tran Kim Cuong, Plant Manager of Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam plant in Dong Nai, added: "2016 is the second consecutive year our company has welcomed elementary pupils engaged in Mizuiku project to visit our plants. Witnessing their excitement during the tours, we took great pride in having contributed to conveying profoundly the message "Water is a precious natural resource" of the project to them. We hope that observing the rigorous process of our water saving and wastewater treatment system will impact positively on the awareness of pupils – future generations taking the main role in environment protection."

After 2 consecutive years of implementation, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam organized field trips for 1,300 pupils engaged in Mizuiku project. Besides factory tours, in 2016, the project has organized over 270 teaching classes with the participation of more than 3,300 elementary pupils in both the north and the south of Vietnam so far. Notably, in the South, Mizuiku reached an additional number of more than 1,300 children with games and interactive activities. Especially, in the summer of 2016, the project has implemented lots of practical activities such as: Installing 6 RO water filter systems, constructing 1 new restroom and renovating 3 ones at schools , establishing Mizuiku fund to call for initiatives to deal with salinity, alkalinity, drought, clean water shortage and Water Saving and Protecting Festival, etc.

Mizuiku is a water education program that has been successfully deployed in Japan since 2004 by Suntory Group and been highly appreciated by the community with the participation of over 100,000 pupils and guardians in Japan. Vietnam is the first country other than Japan having this project developed. This is a long-term project that is closely tied to SPVB’s environmental protection programs in particular and the Company’s social responsibilities in general of Suntory PepsiCo in Vietnam.
