Nui Hong Coal Company: Production Associated with Labour Safety

Improving working conditions and ensuring a safe, hygienic workplace is one of key tasks to develop production and increase labour productivity. Therefore, Nui Hong Coal Company always attaches great importance to labour protection and regards it as an important employment task in order to minimise or prevent workplace accidents and make sure that employees are healthy and free from occupational diseases or other illnesses caused by poor working conditions.

The company constantly cares and intensifies inspections, urge its units to follow work safety and hygiene regulations. Nui Hong Coal Company has decentralised occupational safety and health regulations to all units which will have monthly and quarterly reviews of individual and collective responsibility and assessments on occupational safety and health implementation, introduce measures to labour safety, and issue regulations on occupational safety and health and environmental protection.

In 2016, the company and its units intensified concrete and realistic measures on occupational safety and health, fire and explosion prevention, and environmental protection. They fully carried out their business and union tasks and ensured safe working. Nui Hong Coal Company strictly managed and seriously carried all activities, from job assignment, management, record keeping and occupational safety and health to occupational safety and health planning. The company and its units regularly performed industrial sanitation. At the workplace, the company had enough places for good lighting, clean and hygienic environment, arranged enough water trucks to irrigate the roads, clear dust at production sites, on roads and in coal warehouses. The working environment and working conditions were regularly invested for better effects. The company had enough equipment to ensure labour hygiene and safety. Besides, it procured and equipped sufficient personal protective instruments and technical facilities for workers. Healthcare for employees was also a top priority of the company, shown by sufficient, nutritious and safe meals and drinks for them. Nui Hong Coal Company also created good conditions for basic healthcare and treatment for employees. In case they carried occupational diseases and chronic diseases, they were subject to close and regular monitoring. The company’s leadership, specialised departments and heads of production units stepped up production inspections and supervisions in order to detect and prevent labour accidents and equipment breakdowns. At production units, supervisors were also present when work assignments were delivered. This ensured observance to labour safety and facilitated easy and effective inspection.

Although coal consumption declined across the market, Nui Hong Coal Company with the ongoing efforts of all employees and supports of local governments managed to boost sales, keep traditional customers, find new ones and expand the market. Therefore, in the past year, the company still achieved business plans. Its revenue reached VND324.4 billion, 3 per cent higher than the full-year plan and the average monthly salary of an employee was nearly VND6 million, 9 per cent higher than the plan.

After nearly 40 years of development, Nui Hong Coal Company was awarded a lot of noble titles and merits like Third Class Victory Order, and Labour Orders of the First, Second and Third Classes. Many individuals and units also received prizes and awards for their efforts and contributions. In the new development stage in the new corporate model, Nui Hong Coal Company is determined to contribute further to the development of Viet Bac Mining Industry Corporation and Vietnam National Coal, Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin).
