After nearly 20 years of operation in Binh Duong province, with the right strategies and supports from the favourable business and investment environment, Uni-President Vietnam Co., Ltd achieved many important successes, thus contributing positively to local socioeconomic development. Vietnam Business Forum Magazine has an interview with Mr Chen I Shen, General Director of Uni-President Vietnam Co., Ltd., on the company's operations and his viewpoints on the investment environment in Binh Duong province.
Could you please tell us about the business results of Uni-President since it invested in Vietnam nearly 20 years ago?
Uni-President, the largest food group in Taiwan, invested up to US$225 million in Vietnam since 1999, with the first project of Uni-President Vietnam located in Song Than II Industrial Park, Binh Duong province. After nearly 20 years of construction and development, from a factory that produced fish fry, animal feeds, wheat flour and instant noodles, we have now developed new projects that are making fish feeds, aquatic breeds, animal feeds and foodstuffs in Tien Giang, Ninh Thuan and Quang Nam provinces.
In production, as you know, we acquired all stake at Tribeco which has a factory in Binh Duong province and another in Hung Yen province.
Since with its starting point, Uni-President Vietnam has made long strides. So, what is the core of that success?
Begun in Taiwan, Uni-President, the largest food firm in Taiwan, is currently engaged in various industries and fields in many countries. With a long development history, Uni-President has built a solid foundation of technique, technology and people. That is a great advantage and a resource for us to succeed in all countries, including Vietnam.
After these successful achievements, could you please tell us future development directions of Uni-President Vietnam?
Our aim is to develop the best foods for humans, using modern production techniques and advanced quality management systems. Uni-President Vietnam is particularly strict about food hygiene and safety and quality control to make sure that our products are absolutely safe for consumers. We always adhere to the philosophy “three good, one fairness (good quality, good service, good credibility and fair price) to satisfy customer needs and lay the groundwork for brand development and market share expansion. We always focus on improving product quality and investing in production lines and understand that only quality builds success.
Our goal is to build Uni-President Vietnam into a strong, sustainable and practical brand. At present, Uni-President Vietnam is the largest invested company of Uni-President Group in Southeast Asia and the most important actor in the region.
In addition to business, Uni-President Vietnam is well-known for its ongoing interests in social activities. Could you tell us more about this?
As soon as it entered Vietnam, Uni-President regarded itself as a Vietnamese business which grows with the Vietnamese economy and shares with Vietnamese people. Therefore, in addition to taking good care of its employees, Uni-President Vietnam regularly takes part in social activities.
As one of successful investors in Binh Duong, how do you assess the local investment environment?
Binh Duong has a very convenient location, neighboured by Ho Chi Minh City and situated in the economic development triangle of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, a very developed area. The province has a convenient transport infrastructure and lies near seaports. Moreover, its investment attraction policies are very good. The government is very friendly and caring. When we are here, we receive active support from local authorities. I personally highly appreciate the current business and investment environment of Binh Duong province.
What are some constraints and difficulties faced by companies when they invest in Binh Duong?
The infrastructure system in Binh Duong has been improved quite a lot, but I think the province needs still greater efforts to make it better. The transport infrastructure has been developed quite fast, but many trunk routes, especially those linking Binh Duong to Ho Chi Minh City, have started to be overloaded and needed to be upgraded.
Thank you very much!
