The earlier distribution of the latest iPhone 14 series in some markets is likely to lead to a potential risk of illegally importing the much-expected devices into Vietnam. Facing this prospect, the General Department of Vietnam Customs (specifically, the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department and Management Supervision Department) recently delivered a written request to customs departments of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Da Nang to cooperate in strengthening online supervision and inspection of electronic and telecom devices and smartphones on air routes to prevent tax loss.
The Anti-smuggling Investigation Department requested the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department to direct the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Office and professional units to coordinate with the Working Group of the Online Supervision Bureau (Bureau 3, Anti-smuggling Investigation Department) to install online monitoring equipment at customs supervision areas at the airport to scan luggage on key flights and transmit images to the command center.
Smuggling iPhone smartphones across Noi Bai International Airport is a potential risk as this airport has direct flight routes to Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong (China) where the iPhone 14 series is available from September 16.
