In recent years, Thai Nguyen province has improved the conditions to attract investments. For this purpose, Thai Nguyen Investment Consulting and Promotion Centre – Planning and Investment Department, was established. Together with consulting and promotion activities, the Centre has recommended policy and mechanism to increase investment in the province, serving as a bridge between local authorities and business community.
The Centre has contributed to the success of major events in the province such as Investment Promotion Conference in October 2004, Viet Bac (Northernmost provinces) Investment Cooperation Seminar in December 2005, Investment and Business Development Seminar in May 2006. It has also recommended that the province provide preferential treatment to encourage investments, improvement of investment environment, promotion of local and foreign investments, website on Thai Nguyen information.
As a member of the Fast-track Committee, the Centre has actively removed the hurdles in the investment process, for instance the case of Mani-Hanoi Company building the inter-section in Highway 3, expansion project and local security problem.
In coordination with the Central Institute of Economic Management (CIEM) and the Netherlands Development Organization (CNV), the Centre has organized regular seminars, workshops land training courses on new laws and policies for organizations and businesses in the province.
In 2006, the Centre has organized several meetings between local authorities and foreign and domestic investors such as Taiwanese investors from Hanoi, South Korean businesses seeking opportunities in Thai Nguyen. The Centre has also sponsored match-making between Thai Nguyen businesses and Chinese investors in industrial production and building tourist and recreation centre.
The Centre focuses on providing investors and entrepreneurs information on the orientation, planning, policy and preferential treatment, consulting on investment area and location, guiding on formalities and implementation of investment projects.
Investors are pleased with the consulting service such as Mani-Meinfa Company transforming from joint venture to wholly foreign owned enterprise, Chinese investors implementing steel project, investors from Ha Tay province developing export cassava processing, CP Trung Tin Company preparing document on Thai market place.
At the threshold of WTO accession, investment promotion must be stepped up. The Centre will attract investment in tourism on the occasion of Tourism Year 2007 and organize Investment Promotion Conference in November 2007.
