Vietnam to Name Ambassador to WTO
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam is hurrying to appoint an Ambassador to the WTO in March, to lead Vietnam’s permanent mission there, a source from the ministry said.
Truong Trieu Duong, acting director of Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation told local Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper.
The WTO mission will include ten representatives from the Ministries of Trade, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Justice, Agriculture and Rural Development in conformity with a recent decision recently approved Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
“Members of the mission must be a high-qualified, professionally proficient and have good command of foreign languages,” Duong affirmed.
The mission will be tasked to take part in WTO activities, particularly negotiation rounds, play a bridging role and helping settle any trade disputes between Vietnamese businesses and foreign counterparts in the interest of the country and domestic businesses.
“At first, the mission will participate in Doha negotiation rounds and closely follow the implementation of Vietnam’s WTO commitments,” Duong noted.
“Foreign Ministry is now in a hurry to complete regulations on the functions and responsibilities of the mission so that it will be operational soon,” Duong added.
To minimize personnel costs, the mission will operate under the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs. (Investment)
