The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced Saturday it would add additional domestic flights to its schedule to serve the traveler surge expected over the Reunification Day and May Day holidays at the month’s end.

The number of travelers swells over the last week in April every year, as Reunification Day falls on April 30, one day before the traditional May Day celebration.

The number of holidaymakers on the celebratory weekend this year is expected to increase significantly over previous years, as the National Assembly has just nationalized the Lunar March 10 Holiday, which will fall on April 26 this year. The new holiday commemorates the Hung Kings, Vietnam’s legendary founders and defenders.

Vietnam Airlines said it would add seven flights to its Hanoi – Danang route and three to its Hanoi – Nha Trang route over the holiday period. Nine additional Ho Chi Minh City – Danang flights will fly for the holidays, while five additional HCMC - Nha Trang flights and three more HCMC – Hue flights will also be offered.

The carrier will also offer 14 HCMC – Phu Quoc flights on the occasion.

In addition to more holiday flights, the Saigon Railway Company also announced it would add four more trains on its HCMC – Nha Trang route over the holiday. (Youth)
