Origin of Exports to EU Needs Strict Examination

Vietnamese companies should provide full information when registering exports to the EU for examination, especially information on the origin of product consignments made from imported materials, according to the National Fishery Quality and Veterinary Directorate Agency (Nafiqaved).

Lacking materials, Vietnamese companies have to import materials from other countries for domestic processing.

According to Nafiqaved, thorough inspection is necessary for product consignments, for export to the EU, which are made from imported materials.

Imported materials may suffer from four types of diseases, including Infectious Salmon anaemia-ISA, Epizootic haematopoietic necrosis-EHN, Infectious haematopoietic necrosis-IHN, and Viral haemorrhagic septicaemia.

Vietnamese companies must provide and take responsibility for information about product origin.

As of May 2007, Nafiqaved branches will inspect and grant food quarantine certificates on exports to the EU under the new form. The new certificate was promulgated by the EU Commission on November 6, 2006, and the new form application has been slated for May 1, 2007.

Also regarding seafood export quality, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare had again issued a warning about poor quality seafood exports to Japan, after continuing to find banned antibiotics in seafood consignments exported by Vietnamese firms.

VASEP asked seafood processors to thoroughly examine exports to Japan before shipment, otherwise Vietnam may lose Japan, a very good market. (Vietnam Economic Times)
