Jan-Apr Retail Sales Up 22.5 per cent to US$13.7Bln
Total retail sales revenue for goods and services across Vietnam in the first four months of this year is estimated to increase by 22.5 per cent on-year to reach VND218.94 trillion (US$13.7 billion), reported the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO).
In January-April, the individual sector remained the biggest seller with revenue of VND126 trillion, or 57.6 per cent of the total, followed by the private sector with revenue of VND62.4 trillion, or 28.5 per cent. These sectors registered sales growth of 25.9 per cent and 31.2 per cent, respectively.
The state-owned sector sold VND22.3 trillion in the period, accounting for 10.2 per cent of the total revenue. Its sales fell 10.2 per cent against a year earlier.
The foreign invested sector saw the highest increase of revenue, at 35.1 per cent on year, to VND6 trillion, making up 2.7 per cent of the country’s retail sales.
The collective sector contributed only 1 per cent of the total sales, with revenue of VND2.2 trillion, growing by 25.4 per cent on year.
Regarding businesses, the trade sector is the biggest seller with revenue of VND179.5 trillion (82 per cent of total), followed by the hotel and restaurant sector with VND25.7 trillion (11.7 per cent), the service sector with VND11.2 trillion (5.1 per cent) and the tourism sector at VND2.6 trillion (1.2 per cent).
The tourism sector gained the highest growth rate of 41.9 per cent, followed by the service sector at 22.6 per cent, the trade sector at 22.4 per cent and the hotel and restaurant sector at 21.4 per cent. (GSO Apr 2007)
