Prices of key construction materials in Vietnam like cement and steel will witness no big changes in May, as production and trading units will satisfy market demand, according to a local market control agency.

Cement production establishments will supply enough cement for the market in the second quarter this year, thanks to 2.1 million tons of stockpiled cement and clinker.

Cement prices nationwide are currently stable, standing at VND770,000-835,000 (US$48.12-52.18)/ton in the north and VND880,000-1 million (US$55-62.5)/ton in the south.

Experts forecast that steel prices will be stable in May as the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) reported April steel production of 270,000-280,000 tons, sold amount of 260,000 tons, finished product stockpile of 180,000 tons and 300,000 tons of stored steel ingot by late April this year.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), housing and construction material prices increased 0.96 per cent compared to March and 10.6 per cent on year, as April was the peak construction season. (Vietnam Economic Times, Vietnam & World Economy)
