Japan Eyed as Key Market for Vietnam Wood Products
Japan, the world’s second largest economy, is proving itself to be an important buyer of Vietnamese wood products, according to the Vietnam Association of Wood and Forestry Products.
Vietnamese enterprises have shipped US$77.6 million worth of wood products to Japan since the beginning of this year, representing a rise of 22.6 per cent against the same period last year.
The wood industry has become one of Vietnam’s new economic high-fliers, with annual growth of 30-40 per cent, making Vietnam the fourth biggest exporter in Southeast Asia after Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Vietnamese wood products are currently available at 120 countries and territories worldwide, with the US, EU, and Japan being the key markets. Total wood exports for 2006 earned more than US$1.92 billion.
Market experts believe that figure will continue to dramatically increase, on the back of low-cost labor and increasing global demand. (Vietnam & World Economy)
