Vietnam to Become ASEAN's Largest Cement Producer by 2010
Vietnam will become ASEAN’s largest cement producer by 2010, said Nguyen Ngoc Thien, chairman of the Vietnam Cement Association.
The country expects to have 45 operating cement plants with combined capacity over 60 million tons by then, Thien said. He excluded six million tons of cement from independent grinding stations and three million tons from blast furnaces.
With this momentum, Vietnam will have a 10-12 million ton cement surplus in 2010-2012, he added.
After two years of implementing cement development plans under the Prime Minister’s decision, over 30 reverter furnace cement projects with combined capacity of some 40 million tons are under construction.
By 2010, the cement industry will need US$3.4 billion investment capital to satisfy burgeoning cement demand.
In the first four months this year, Vietnam used around 11 million tons of cement, compared with an estimated 32 million tons for the whole year. (Vietnam & World Economy)
