Agribank to Sign 5 Contracts Giants in US
Acting General Director of Agribank, Nguyen The Binh stated that he, accompanying State President Nguyen Minh Triet to pay visit to the US from June 18-23, will sign five cooperation deals with US giants in Washington D.C and New York.
They include the software copyright agreement with Microsoft, the Memorandums of Understanding with Wachovia Bank and British Standard Chartered and Austrian Raiffeisen Banking Group (RZB), Binh said.
Excluding the copyright contract with Microsoft, the total value of these agreements estimated at $1.55 billion, Binh noted, adding the Agribank will also ink another memorandum of understanding on human resource development and training with the Hawaii University.
Over 120 entrepreneurs will accompany the State President Triet, who becomes the first head of the State of Vietnam since the war ended thirty years ago. They expect to sign $4.5 billion contracts with the US partners.
State President Triet’s working visit to the US at the invitation of the US President George W Bush will focus on trade and investment promotion and hold direct dialogues about the human rights issues.
Before leaving Hanoi for New York, Triet emphasized that Vietnam and the US should not let this problem affect the overall development of bilateral ties, acknowledging that the two countries have different conceptions and approaches on this issue.
By the end of April, 2007, the US had invested into Vietnam more than $2.3 billion, becoming the 8th largest foreign investor in the Southeast Asian country. More than 1,000 US businesses are operating in Vietnam. (Labor Online)
