Vietnamese footwear companies are shifting their exports to the US and other markets such as Japan, Taiwan and Eastern Europe because of negative effects from the EU’s anti-dumping duty, said the Vietnam Leather and Shoe Association (Lefaso).

Local leather footwear producers should vary export items to EU market and solidify traditional markets while actively seeking new markets like Latin America and Japan, Taiwan, urged Lefaso.

In the first half this year, Vietnam’s footwear exports to North America market reportedly rose 20 per cent on-year while shipments to the EU accounted for 50 per cent of the country’s total export value, down from more than 70 per cent previously, Lefaso noted.

Vietnam’s shoe shipments faced a number of difficulties during the period so the industry saw a slight growth of just 10.7 per cent on-year to fetch US$1.93 billion, representing 48.2 per cent of its yearly target.

This year, Vietnam’s shoe industry expects to obtain US$3.9-4 billion from exports, compared with US$3.59 billion last year. (Vietnam & World Economy, VNA)
