Central Danang city needs will require VND3.5 trillion (US$218.75 million) to build an “environment city” from now to 2020, said the municipal Natural Resources and Environment Department.

The funding will be invested in 30 projects on energy, clean air, water management and use, solid waste management, and environment protection.

The projects target to treat all wastewater emitted from local industrial zones and export processing parks and 50 per cent of household wastewater, collect and treat 90 per cent of solid household waste, and recycle haft of solid waste.

The city decided to spend VND129.2 billion ($8 million) on a program managing industrial pollution through 2010, asking 70 per cent of local manufacturing and processing plants and businesses operating before 2006 to complete waste management systems.

Five of the city’s six industrial parks are forced to build wastewater treatment systems. Meanwhile, all polluting plants in residential areas must move to industrial areas, or even close down if they fail to meet waste disposal and pollution standards. (People’s Police)
