More Vietnamese Seafood Firms Okayed to Enter EU Market
An additional 18 Vietnamese seafood enterprises have been allowed to ship their products to the European Union market so far this year, according to the Ministry of Fisheries.
The figure has raised the total number of Vietnamese businesses meeting the EU standard to 245 to date.
According to the ministry, the EU has long been the largest trade bloc market for Vietnamese tra and basa catfish, importing more than 100,00 tons of this product of Vietnam last year.
The EU market has already left the US and Japan behind to become the largest importer of Vietnamese seafood with 24.4 per cent of market share, said the ministry, adding that Vietnam will continue to project seafood as its key export item to the market.
In 2006, the country’s export earnings from the EU market stood at US$6.9 billion, of which those from seafood accounted for USUS$730.8 million.
