Car Sales Rise 82 per cent in Jan-July

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) has announced that car sales of its 16 member carmakers rose 82 per cent on year to 34,998 units in the first seven months this year.

The July auto sales jumped 6.43 per cent on month and 92 per cent on year to 6,474 units, it said Monday.

The growth was mainly contributed by high rise in all segments, especially sales of passenger cars and commercial cars.

The passenger car sales were up 159 per cent on year in July and 158 per cent on year in January-July period to 1,414 units and 7,903 units, respectively.

The commercial vehicle remains the best seller with sales of 3,193 units in July, up 104 per cent on year, and 15,914 units in January-July, up 78 per cent on year.

The SUV/MPV sales also jumped 49 per cent on year and 54 per cent to 1,867 units and 11,181 units, respectively.

Currently, car buyers have to accept to wait for two months or so to have their car deliveries, a car trader said.

Toyota sold 1,774 vehicles in July and 9,936 units in seven-month period, holding 27 per cent and 28.4 per cent of the market share, respectively.

Vindaco sold no cars because it has stopped making Daihatsu vehicles.

According to government’s general statistics office, Vietnam imported 10,000 finished cars valued at US$193 million in the first seven months this year, up 33.9 per cent on year in volume and 55 per cent in value.
