A delegation of Vietnamese seafood companies will leave for Brazil and Chile from September 14-24 to conduct market research and boost exports to the South American region, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

During its trip to the countries, the delegation will work with seafood import agencies to study the regulations and standards needed for Vietnam to export to the markets.

A seminar on Vietnam’s seafood products which is expected to draw the participation of the South American countries' functional agencies, seafood importers and mass media, will also be run by the association.

During the fact-finding trip, which is part of the 2007 national trade promotion program, the delegation will attend the Seafood Expo Latin America 2007 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Vietnamese seafood industry has seen massive growth over the last decade, and export turnover is targeted at US$3.6 billion for this year, a year-on-year increase of 7 per cent.

To achieve the figure, the country boosted exports to traditional markets like China, the US, the EU, Japan, Canada, and South Korea, and some new ones like the Middle East, East Europe, Africa, and South America. (Vietnam & World Economy)
