Russia Allows Seafood Import from 11 Vietnamese Enterprises
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Physio-sanitary Surveillance (VPSS) has agreed to allow Russian firms to import seafood from 11 Vietnamese enterprises, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (Vasep)confirmed on August 16.
The seafood will be exported to Russia via St.Petersburg and Vladivostok seaports, Vasep said.
VPSS’s decision is made after its inspection tour of 19 seafood processing facilities in Vietnam between July 8-18, which realized that farming, technique and treating of lakes at the facilities meet Russian standards.
But VPSS said it will continue inspections on other facilities in the coming time.
From January 15, 2007, only seafood lots processed at establishments recognized by Vietnamese agencies and holding obtained VPSS’s certificates on food safety and hygiene would be licensed to ship seafood to Russia.
Russia continued to be a major market for Vietnamese seafood. In the first half of this year, about 5.2 per cent of the country’s total seafood export turnover was from Russia, coming in at fifth behind the EU, the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea. (Labour)
