Vietnam Exports 21Mln Tons of Coal in Jan-August
Vietnam is estimated to have shipped abroad 20.8 million tons of coal in the first eight months of this year, obtaining US$654 million, up 18.8 per cent on year in terms of volume and 17.4 per cent on year in terms of value, the General Statistic Office reported.
In August alone, the country exported 2.2 million tons, raking in US$70 million, up 83 per cent on-month in terms of volume and down 10 per cent on month in terms of value.
Vietnam now ships coal to 16 countries and territories worldwide including China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
In the eight-month span, the country’s mining sector reportedly exploited 26.891 million tons of clean coal, up 14 per cent on-year, the department noted.
The former Ministry of Industry (currently called the Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecast that Vietnam will have to import coal for domestic consumption with estimated 1.3 million tons in 2010, 5.9 million tons in 2015, 15.4 million tons in 2020 and 54.4 million tons in 2025.
