Vietnam Plastics Exports Hit US$509 Mln in Jan-September
Vietnam’s plastic exporters are estimated to have shipped abroad US$509 million worth plastic products in the first nine months, up 51 per cent on-year, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
In September alone, the industry exported US$65 million of plastic products, GSO said.
The country exported finished plastics products mainly to the U.S., Japan, Switzerland, Norway, the UK, Germany and Cambodia and imports raw materials from the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and China.
The sector is planned to rake in US$580 million from exports this year, up 21.3 per cent on year, said the Vietnam Plastic Association.
By 2010, Vietnam target to produce 3.8 million tons, or 42 kg a per capita per year, much higher than 1.7 million tons and 23 kg of 2006, respectively.
Vietnam is now home to 1,400 plastic manufacturers with more than 80 per cent located in Ho Chi Minh City. (Vietnam & World Economy, GSO)
