Vietnam will have one alliance for all automated telling machines (ATMs) till late 2008, said Ta Quang Tien, director of the State Bank of Vietnam’s Informatics Technology Department of Banking (ITDB).

At present, ITDB is speeding up the program to link cards, with ATM in the initial stage, between local banks.

Vietnamese banks have different models and scales, leading to the differences in using technologies between large- and small-scale banks.

“Banking” will be a bridge to narrow the gap, Tien said.

Vietnam now has three ATM alliances, including BankNet headed by Agribank, VNBC headed by EAB, and another alliance headed by Vietcombank. (Laborer)
