Danang City in central Vietnam has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Griffith University (GU) in State of Queensland, Australia on cooperation in education, training and tourism strategy planning in five years, local Thanh Nien reported Monday.

Under the MoU, the two sides will jointly carry out surveys on tourism potentials, developing special tourism models and cooperating in organizing tourism human resources (HR) training courses for local staff.

“We are very pleased with the signing,” Ngo Quang Vinh, Chairman of Danang Tourism Department, said, hoping that the partnership will help the city ease shortage of skilled tourism HR.

Danang has licensed 43 tourism projects totaling $2 billion as of October 2007. Of them, 12 projects are foreign-invested with total capital of $1 billion, Vinh said.

The city targets more than 1 million tourist arrivals and tourism revenue of VND606 billion ($37.8 million) this year, up 32 per cent and 39 per cent on-year respectively.

Earlier, the Danang Department of Science and Technology signed a MoU with the university on cooperating in bio-technology application, education and training, consultation and support to develop a bio-technology center in Danang.

Griffith University is considered one of ten leading universities in Australia. Since 2005, some Griffith delegations have come to Danang to explore possibilities for educational and training cooperation.

In August 2006, Mr. Christopher Madden, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), visited the city and gave a Master scholarship to the Danang Young Officials Club. (Young People)
