The Southern Airport Services Company (SASCO) will open a four-star entertainment complex on Phu Quoc, the biggest island in Vietnam, in November, as parts of its business expansions in the locality, Nguyen Quoc Danh, SASCO director said.

The SASCO Blue Lagoon Resort Phu Quoc, which will cover two hectares, will include a main lobby, nine bungalows, ten mini-villas, a number of luxurious rooms and other facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and conference rooms.

Further details about the resort complex, including construction capital have not been reported.

Besides Blue Lagoon, Sasco has invested in other Phu Quoc projects, such as taxi and tourism services and fish sauce production, Danh said.

Phu Quoc has so far approved investment licenses for 46 projects costing $1.03 billion.

Lying in the Gulf of Thailand, the 561 square kilometer island is well-known for its cleanest area in Southeast Asia. It has also been selected as a model for the marketing and advertising of the tourism sector's images to both foreign and local tourists.

Phu Quoc has 254 hotel rooms and 63 guesthouses with nearly 1,200 rooms. The island aims to raise the room number to 3,500 by 2010 and 18,000 by 2020.

Phu Quoc expects to welcome 300,000 – 3 million visitors a year in the 2010-2020 period. Among them, the number of international arrivals makes up 30 per cent-40 per cent of the total. Revenue from the hospitality sector during the period will reach $45 million-$771 million. (Investment)
