Report on Vietnamese 500 Largest Companies Announced

VietNamNet online newspaper and Vietnam Report Company last week announced a list of 500 Vietnamese companies, which obtained the highest gross revenues in a report entitled VNR500, state media said.

 

The report, molded on the scheme of Fortune 500, showed that Vietsovpetro, an oil and gas joint venture between PetroVietnam and Russia’s Zarubeznheft group topped the list.

 

The report was built up based on enterprises’ latest figures including their revenues updated until December 31, 2006 by the General Statistics Office (GSO).

 

The report is divided into two lists as follows:

 

List 1 is the top 500 companies in Vietnam that obtained the highest revenues (comprising of state owned, foreign-owned and private-owned companies). These companies earned minimum revenues of VND670 billion in 2006.

 

Vietsopetro is followed by Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation (Petrolimex), Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation No 2, Hualon Corporation Vietnam, Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company Lt and Petroleum Company B12.

 

The remaining of two in the top ten are Vietnam Industrial and Commercial Bank (Vietincombank) and Vietnam Bank for Foreign Trade (Vietcombank).

 

List 2 is the top 500 Vietnamese private businesses with the biggest revenues. These companies reached minimum revenues of VND230 billion last year.

 

The top ten companies are Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technologies (FPT), Thep Viet Co, Ltd., Vietnam International Bank (VIB), Pomina Steel Company Ltd, Saigon Coop, Trade and Construction Service Company, National Phytopharma Joint Stock Company No 2, Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), Thai Hung Trading Joint Stock Company and Tam Diep Rolling Co, Ltd.

 

The report also included 140 foreign-invested companies and 90 local private companies.

 

Up to 32 per cent of Vietnam’s leading enterprises are operating in Ho Chi Minh City and 24 per cent in Hanoi, the report said.
