The government of Vietnam is considering a US$4.18 billion project invested by Brunei’s New City Co to build a high-grade tourist complex in central Phu Yen province as part of its facilities will serve as a casino for foreigners, provincial authorities said.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has so far given in principle nod to the project which is designed to cover 565 hectares in Tuy Hoa city, including 30 hectares for the planned casino on Hon Chua and neighboring islands.

Many entertainment facilities are also planned under the project, the investor said.

According to Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Ngoc Chi, the project is likely to meet requirements for casino activities because it is located aloof from residential areas, thereby ensuring security conditions.

Final decision will be made as soon as possible, an official from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said without revealing concrete time. (VNA)
