Vietnam Seafood Producers Striving to Expand Operations
Seafood companies in Vietnam are striving to expand their operations by building more processing plants and upgrading technology in order to meet increasing demand of the global market in both volume and value, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said on its Web site.
An Viet JSC or Anvifish Co. is investing up to VND400 billion (US$25 million) to set up a cold storage with total capacity of 40,000 tons
The facility will be put into operation in May 2008 to meet the company’s scheme to expand to Middle-East, Central and Southern America markets, said Anvifish Co General Director Luu Bach Thao.
Deputy director of the K&K Co. Ltd, Tran Quang Khai said his company will build a seafood factory with an annual capacity of 70,000 tons in Dong Thap in 2008. The US$6 million project is expected to become operational in August, 2008.
Tran Minh Ngai, director of To Chau JSC said the company kicked off construction of a tra and basa catfish processing plant in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province October 2007. The plant costing VND75 billion or US$4.68 million will run in April next year.
Another seafood processor, the Hung Ca Co., Ltd, has also invested VND30 billion (US$1.875 million) to increase its capacity to 150 tons of raw materials a day.
Three out of the biggest tra and basa catfish processing and exporting companies in Vietnam, including Nam Viet JSC (Navico), Hung Vuong JSC and Mekong JSC December 7 also signed strategic agreement in order to develop business programs relating to fish cultivating and markets.
