On December 4, the Fifth Vietnam International Trade Fair – V.I.Trade Expo 2007 was opened at the Ho Chi Minh City International Exhibition and Convention Centre (HIECC). This is an annual fair held by the Trade Fair and Advertisement Joint Stock Company Vinexad with the sponsor of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
The fair included 400 show-cases of more than 300 groups and enterprises from countries and territories such as EU, China, South Korea, Pakistan, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, U.A.E and Vietnam.
This is a good chance for exporters and importers in Vietnam and in the region, producers, distributors and retailers, supermarkets, import and export agents, trade associations, managers and economic experts to meet and exchange with producers and suppliers of equipment, materials and goods from countries. Mr. Pham Quynh Giang, Deputy General Director of Vinexad, said that through the fair, Vinexad hoped to make an active contribution to export and trade promotion activities for Vietnamese businesses. At the fair, the number of displayed commodities from countries sharply increased compared with the previous fairs and exhibitions.
In such a general fair, show-cased products were very diversified, including apparel, footwear, plastic and rubber, woodwork and interior decoration furniture, fine handicraft products, agricultural products such as seafood, processed food, export agricultural products, basic and completed building materials, equipment, facilities, finished industrial equipment, export mechanical products, electronics, telecom and IT products, hi-tech products, automobiles, motorbikes, fuel and chemical products. Many products were first introduced in the fair in Vietnam. For example, Taiwan Pressed Flower Company introduced dry flower which are processed by a special technology to keep the natural colour of the flower.
A typical feature in this year’s fair is that many businesses showed machines, and advanced technology with new creativeness. For example, the South Korea’s Ncomputing Company introduced its technology which allows 30 persons to use a personal computer at the same time at low cost, and it is easy for instalment and use, suitable for schools, universities, offices, and factories. One of the food processing companies widely known in Vietnam is Kosain Food Technology. This company introduced advanced technology line to produce various food and beverage such as tea, fruit juice, milk, sauce, food colour and nutritious food.
As many as 37 Vietnamese businesses attended the fair with 49 show-cases. The majority of Vietnamese companies showed fine handicraft products and woodwork, typically Anti Company, Ltd. with Viethoney natural bee’s honey products. This firm introduced pure natural bee’s honey directly taken from bees’ nest in U Minh Forest, a famous forest in southern Vietnam. It pledged to compensate VND100 million (US$6,250) for customers if its bee’s honey would be not pure. In addition, the company also had other products such as royal jelly, bee’s honey crocus, bee wine, natural pollen, forest pollen, bee’s honey lemon juice, and bee’s honey orange juice. These are nutritious and healthy food products and potential for export.
Apart from the goal of trade promotion, the fair is also an opportunity for the country to attract foreign investment. Therefore, during the four-day fair, the organisation board also held a conference entitled “Foreign investment in Vietnam – Potential and Opportunity” to provide information on investment policies, and investment environment in Vietnam for foreign enterprises attending the fair. At the same time, the fair facilitated the direct introduction of infrastructure system for foreign investment in Vietnam through sightseeing activities at industrial parks in the south.
