Vietnam Promises Viable Support for Apparel Exporters

The government of Vietnam will closely support its textile and garment exporters to boost their foreign-currency earning industry, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Bui Xuan Khu.
 
The government will try its utmost to negotiate with U.S. counterparts to remove or reduce categories in its monitoring mechanism, which set to be effective until end of 2008, Bui Xuan Khu noted.
 
It will work with the Japanese government to complete the free trade agreement as soon as possible, he confirmed.
 
The government, on the other hand, urged the sector to improve infrastructure facilities and increase local apparel contents.
 
The country's apparel exporters reportedly sold US$7,051 million in the first eleven months, up 32 per cent on year, whist bought in US$6.533 million worth of cloth, fiber thread, cotton and apparel, leather accessories.
 
Vietnam targeted to export US$9.5 billion apparel products in 2008, up from an estimated of US$7.8 billion this year. (Thanh Nien Daily, GSO Nov Edition)
