Forum on Vietnamese Exporters to U.S. to Open in Hanoi
The Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Trade (VCCI) and the Vietnam Trade Office in the U.S. will co-chair “Forum on Vietnamese Exporters to the U.S.” in Hanoi March 12.
The event is aimed to boost and diverse Vietnam's commodity shipments to its largest export market.
Analysts from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will disseminate latest and necessary information about standards of stateside exports and introduce some methods to Vietnamese exporters to avoid risks and trade disputes in the American market.
March 7, the CPSC and the Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ) of the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology inked an agreement on improving the safety of consumer products exported to the U.S. from Vietnam
Under the agreement, both sides will share information and technical requirements to implement consumer safety programs.
In 2007, Vietnam surpassed Chile, Colombia, the Philippines and Spain to be listed among 30 biggest exporters to the U.S., according to a report by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
ITC statistics indicated that Vietnam's shipments to the U.S., reached $10.54 billion last year, up 25% on year, mainly driven by traditional items of apparel (36%), woodwork (36%), electric equipment (67%) and coffee (52%).
Despite the worry about a possible recession of the U.S. economy, Vietnam expects that the country's export turnover to the vast market would gain $13.1 billion this year. (Investment,
