Vietnam Publicizes New Decree on Employing Foreigners
The Government of Vietnam March 25 issued a decree on the recruitment and hiring foreign employees in Vietnam, the state-run Nhan Dan newspaper reported on March 27.
The Decree 34/2008/ND-CP is applied to foreigners working in Vietnam and Vietnamese businesses and organizations employing foreigners, it said.
The decree stipulates that foreigners working in Vietnam must be aged over 18 and their health must meet their jobs’ requirements. They are managers, executive directors or experts directly in charge of businesses that have set up their trade presence in the country.
Foreign employees must have working licenses given by authorized Vietnamese agencies excluding those who do not need to be licensed as regulated.
Employers are permitted to use foreigners who neither has previous conviction of national security violations nor is being held for crimes or serving penal sentence under the Vietnamese and any foreign country’s laws, added the decree.
Foreign laborers are flocking to Vietnam to find jobs as they see potential employment opportunities, a recent survey by Navigos Group said.
In the third quarter of 2007, the number of foreign job seekers in Vietnam was 4 per cent higher than that of the same period of a year earlier, Navigos said.
