Vietnam Timber Imports up 26.9 per cent to US$369 Mln in Jan-April
Vietnam imported US$90 million worth of timber materials in March, raising the country’s total expenditure on the material to US$369 million in the first four month of 2008, up 26.9 per cent on year, the General Statistics Office said.
According to figures provided by the General Customs Department, Vietnam imported US$268 million worth of timber between January and March, up 34.6 per cent against the same period of last year.
Malaysia was the biggest timber exporter of Vietnam during the first quarter of this year, with total export revenues of US$37 million, up 23 per cent, followed by Myanmar and the U.S. with US$28.9 million and US$29.79 million, up four times and 76.5 per cent on year, respectively.
Other big exporters included Laos, China, Cambodia, Thailand and Brazil.
Between January and April, Vietnam raked in US$934 million from exporting woodwork products, up 22.5 per cent on year. (GSO April Edition, Vinanet)
