Rubber Export Falls 14 per cent in Jan-May

Vietnam is estimated to have exported only 201,000 tons of rubber in the first five months of 2008, representing on year decrease of nearly 14 per cent, reported by the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
 
The export bought in US$493 million to the country, up 15.3 per cent from the same period of 2007.
 
In May, the country exported 40,000 tons of rubber, raking in US$105 million.
 
According to the Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA), export prices of Vietnamese rubber in the first four months of 2008 increased by 24.4 per cent on year.
 
Among importers, China was still the biggest, accounting for nearly 61 per cent of Vietnam’s total rubber export volume, followed by South Korea, Germany and Taiwan with 6.68 per cent; 4.52 per cent and 4.04 per cent, respectively.
 
Between January and April, Vietnam imported around 69,000 tons of rubber valued at US$162,000, up 15.8 per cent on year in volume and 48.2 per cent in value. (GSO May Edition, VRA)
